Pilates Classes

Join the Harrisburg Area YMCA’s Pilates classes to lengthen and strengthen your muscles. Based on the Pilates method of body conditioning, these classes provide excellent flexibility work as well as gentle, non-impact exercises that strengthen abdominal and back muscles to ultimately stabilize the spine.

Pilates is a system of exercises that engage the mind and condition the total body. The blend of strength and flexibility training improves posture, reduces stress, and creates long, lean muscles. It takes a balancing approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body moves as an efficient, holistic system in sports and daily activity. Pilates is known to increase body awareness, allowing us to better respond to stimuli like hunger, emotions, pain, and our environment.

 

The Y offers Pilates Personal Training sessions one-on-one or with a buddy.


 

The particular exercise of Pilates also seeks to strengthen the buttocks and upper body through conditioning and stretching exercises. It is also a perfect workout for any level of participant and can help you maximize your fitness potential! Pilates classes are offered at select YMCA branches. Find your class today!
