The Aquatics program at the East Shore Branch is about more than swimming at your community pool. Aquatics classes facilitate health seekers in meeting their fitness goals, but also offer the opportunity to develop relationships with people who share their love of the water. Our swim lessons teach not only a valuable life skill, in which students learn at their own pace, they are infused with the Y character values of caring, respect and responsibility. And, of course, all of our Aquatics programs are about having fun and buoying your spirit.
The East Shore Y’s four-lane, 25-yard pool, was built in 1932. It was recently outfitted with a new filtration system. Richly colored tiles decorate the pool, deck and walls. Some of the mosaics reflect symbols of the sea god Poseidon from classical Greece. Fleur de lis mosaics honor the French Dauphine, from whom Dauphin County derives its name. Children of all ages enjoy swimming with fanciful turtles, crabs, starfish and lobster inlaid in the pool bottom. The pool is maintained at 82-84 degrees.
We allot over 35 hours each week exclusively for lap swimming, with another 40 hours during which at least one lane is available for lap swimming.
Our well-trained, certified staff is available to address your specific needs. In addition to water fitness classes and swimming lessons we offer lifeguard certifications and specialty workshops.
