What is the Strong Communities Financial Assistance Program?
The Strong Communities Financial Assistance Program provides
families in need with financial support to participate in membership and program
activities at the Harrisburg Area YMCA; Funds for the Strong Communities
Financial Assistance Program are raised by community volunteers in the Annual Support Campaign. More than 2,000 donors contribute to the campaign.
Don't I Earn Too Much Money To Qualify for any Assistance?
We analyze each individual case on an "as needs" basis. Expenses such as medical bills, emergencies, etc are figured in when processing the application.
How Long Will the Financial
Assistance Continue?
Need for financial assistance is reassessed annually or
bi-annually depending on each situation.
How is Confidential Information
Handled?
Only you and the director in charge of the program in which
you participate will have knowledge of the financial application form. All confidential information is kept in a locked office.
How Will the Financial Assistance Amount be Determined?
We have a sliding scale, based on total household income and
number of dependents, which assists in determining the amount of assistance for
which you qualify.
How Do I Apply?
- Complete the Assistance Application.
- Submit a copy of your most recent year's Federal Income Tax form
- Submit a copy of the following:
- two recent paycheck stubs
- any other awards or income from local, state, or federal agencies
How Long Will it Take to Find out if I Receive Assistance?
It can take up to 30 days, depending upon the number of applicants.
May I do Anything in Return for This Assistance?
Yes! The YMCA is a volunteer organization.
Children and adults are encouraged to volunteer. Also, our donors
appreciate knowing how their contributions are used, so submitting a short note
about how you have benefited from the Financial Assistance Program would be
appreciated.
Is Financial Assistance
Available at All Harrisburg Area YMCA Branches?
Financial Assistance is available at every branch of the
Harrisburg Area YMCA. However, because subsidies are branch-specific,
financial assistance is not transferable from one branch to another. In
other words, financial assistance must be sought at the branch at which you will
be participating as a member or community participant. By becoming
